Lucky Fonz recently toured South Africa playing around the country including a slot at this year’s Sexy.Crooked.Teeth Oppikoppi music festival. He has been a regular visitor to South Africa for the past three years and his following has been growing each year which is really great to see as he is an amazing performer. We shot a few promo photos just before he played a gig at Cool Runnings in Victory Park, in shooting these photos I wanted to capture the fact that despite his jovial and at time comedic persona on stage his lyrics are often more serious than one would think at first listen. I am already waiting for his next tour… Check out his Myspace page.

A few months back I was invited by my very good friend Sven to a dedication for his son Alexander. This was my first dedication and volunteered to shoot a few photos. It was a really good day out and was good to spend some time with his family and friends. I shot everything with natural light(how unlikely is that?) and converted them to mono and tried out a few processing techniques but decided on a classic black and white feel. in the end. The photos didn’t turn out exactly as I initially planned but I still really love these.
Oh, that last photo is not of Alexander but is one of my favourite portraits to date which was shot at the dedication so I thought I would post it anyway…

I’ve been a bit lazy, okay a lot lazy and therefore have not been paying attention to my blog, so here goes… a few weeks ago I shot a few photographs with the guys from Dead Alphabet, they are an awesome bunch of guys and one of the best bands around. If you’re looking for some good old fashioned rock and roll then Dead Alphabet is definitely worth checking out. We were supposed to shoot at Top Star drive-in as well but I had some difficulties getting the generator working so we just ended up shooting at Justin’s place. There only idea I had was ‘negative space’(whatever that means). These are the photos…

I was contacted a few weeks back by Devan Murugan, an old friend of mine, he wanted some portraits done. I did them. I really like this one . Oh, for those of you who don’t watch the SABC channels, Devan reads the 7pm news.

… It was a good morning and I shot a few photos of my cousin Yeshiel at a nearby park… these are those photos… or four of them at least. I’ve been messing around with some processing techniques so these have been processed slightly differently… especially the last one…

I took this shot some time ago(I’ve got a ton of unprocessed RAW files sitting on my machine), anyway, it is of my cousin Yeshiel. I’ve been wanting to mess around with colour temperature on portraits for a while now and just kinda give it a washed-out look. I quite like it even though the skin tones are pretty far off.
