ZEBRA & GIRAFFE – STRIPPED DOWN WINTER TOUR

Having been quiet for most of this year in terms of live performances Zebra & Giraffe played at PopArt this weekend to end off their stripped down Winter tour. This is fast becoming one of my favourite annual gigs, each winter the guys from Z&G rework their songs which works really well as I get the feeling a lot of the songs have started out with acoustic guitar and vocals thus lending themselves to be moulded into the intimate versions […]

JOHN NEWMAN & BEATENBERG

I covered the John Newman gig for Texx and the City last week, Beatenberg opened the show. It was a difficult show to shoot due to some particularly strange lighting… A full review can be found here.   John Newman

SKYLIGHT – MADE FOR MORE ALBUM LAUNCH

I was invited to the Skylight album launch that took place this last Wednesday night, after threatening to release a record for a while now the guys have finally done it. It was great to see a relatively new band play to a good supportive crowd, it’s not a common experience for new bands in Johannesburg so I was pleasantly surprised. Tanz Live does not make it easy for gig photographers as the lighting is pretty poor and not well […]

Bastille

BASTILLE, MATTHEW MOLE AND BEATENBERG

This last weekend I got to shoot the latest of the Seed Experience events… Bastille, Matthew Mole, Beatenberg and Bed on Bricks played to a 14,000 strong crowd. These are a few of the photos I shot on the day. Bastille

JULIAN REDPATH AND THE STELLA’S

Last week I shot some photos at the latest installment of Jozi on Fire… It’s been a few months since I was involved and it was good to get back into shooting some live music. Julian Redpath was first up and I don’t think the crowd (mostly there for a party) appreciated the subtlety of the music. Julian has shades of Lucky Fonz III and definitely an acoustic show worth making a plan to see. The headliner for the night […]

GANGS OF BALLET ALBUM LAUNCH

I’ve worked with the guys from Gangs of Ballet a few times in the last year and it’s been an absolute privilege watching and shooting them, some of the coolest people I know and a super talented. Their debut full length record Yes/No/Grey was released last week and the guys are on the road pushing the release with a bunch of album launches around the country… Make sure to catch them if you can. These are a few of the […]

JOZI ON FIRE #2 – LACEY MAY

The second edition of Jozi on Fire was held last week Wednesday at Openroom Productions, organised by Tecla Ciolfi of Texx and the City fame, the first event was something really special to witness and so was the second. Lacey May and Planet Joy performed this time around… been mad busy so I’m just going to post the shots on Lacey May for the moment.

GANGS OF BALLET RECORD DEBUT FULL LENGTH ALBUM

I was lucky enough to join the guys from Gangs of Ballet in studio and shoot a few photographs of them working on and recording their debut full length release at Openroom studios with Darryl Torr. If you follow me on facespace or twitter you will know that I am really excited about this record. The guys are super talented and I really hope this record get them the recognition the deserve. They currently have an  EP out which is available […]

COUCHING SESSIONS – THE PLASTICS

If you have not yet been for one of the Couching Sessions at Openroom Studios you NEED to get yourself to one. A small intimate show (about 35 guests) and good bands and the best auditory experience… as you would expect from Openroom Studios. The Plastics played the second of the Couching Session series last Thursday and it was good to see the guys doing something very different to what I’ve seen before… Acoustic, intimate, and just really really good. I […]

SOME OF MY 2012 FAVOURITES

I thought I would post a few of my favourite images from the year… these aren’t necessarily just my best photos but also the ones where I’ve had the most fun or just with people who are really rad. In no particular order except that I really love the first image.   1. Taken on day two of the Otter Trail. Definitely a hike worth doing… It’s difficult but not that difficult.   2. An image I shot for Hermanna […]
